Roosevelt Neighborhood Profile

The Roosevelt Neighborhood spans from the base of Alabama Hill, north to Barley Village, west to Sunset Square and south to Iowa Street. The area is comprised of a large variety of real estate. Everything from single family residential homes, to multi-family, retails stores, commercial districts, warehouse space, and car dealerships.

Shopping in the Roosevelt Neighborhood consists of Barkley Village to the north end of the area, with a Haggen grocery store, as well as small shops and restaurants. Alabama and Yew St has a small strip mall with a gas station, pre-school, and some other small shops. Iowa Street is lines with car dealerships, and Sunset Square has a movie theater and lots of restaurants, a Lowe's home improvement, and several grocery stores.

There are 3 park areas in the Roosevelt Neighborhood. Roosevelt Park features a playground, large playing field, and basketball courts. Whatcom Falls park is also considered part of the Roosevelt are, even though it is at the extreme southeast corner. The Railroad Trail is a 3 mile trail that follows the old railroad grade from Memorial Park to Lake Whatcom. It runs along the north edge of the neighborhood, behind Roosevelt Elementary.

Elementary aged students attend Roosevelt Elementary School. Students who live south of Alabama Street go to Kulshan Middle School and Bellingham High School. Students who live north of Alabama Street and west of Woburn attend Shuksan Middle School. Those who live north of Alabama and east of Woburn attend Whatcom Middle School. All students who live north of Alabama Street attend Squalicum High School.
