Meridian Neighborhood Profile Every town in America seems to have an area where the Wal-Marts, Home Depots, and Best Buys reside. In Bellingham, this area is called the Meridian Neighborhood. Located just off I-5, and along Meridian St (North/South for Guide Meridian), this is the main arterial through way in Bellingham. East West access to many of the business is provided by Bakerview Road. Meridian and Guide Meridian roads provide the best access to various Bellingham locations, as well as the town of Lynden to the north, and the Canadian boarder crossing. Canadian shoppers are the main source of traffic in the Meridian Neighborhood, as well as daily commuters traveling to and from the north Whatcom county communities. Shopping is a big part of the Meridian Neighborhood. Bellis Fair is Bellingham's largest shopping mall, and is located just northwest of I-5 and Meridian St. Many other "Big Box" stores such as Home Depot, Wal-Mart, Costco, Best Buy, and G.I. Joe's are nearby. There are very few residential houses; however, there are numerous apartments, condos, and retirement centers in the Meridian Neighborhood. Students generally attend Alderwood or Sunnyland Elementary, Shuksan Middle School, and Squalicum High School.
